our story

Mother's recipe is how Brothecary's became realized.  Having spent several years living and working in the corporate world in New York City, sisters, Allison and Janice both found themselves constantly calling their Mom for dinner recipes and cooking instruction.

Broth is a big part of a traditional Cantonese household.  A family-style dinner is not complete without a side of broth.  In the sisters' world, the slow-simmered broth was not just a complimentary item for dinner but use for medicinal healing. Drinking broth is their restorative process. Using the appropriate ingredient, broth is where they found their yin & yang balance.

When dining out, the soup was always dumbed down. We believe more delicious soup with real ingredients are needed in our world. The key to bone broth - be gentle. The cooking process is slow and gentle, coaxing out the flavor with very little bubbles.

The 'So's' Twins were born in Hong Kong and grew up in California.  After finishing up their Bachelor degree in California, the two found their way to NYC where they began their corporate and food exploration career.

Their relocation to Los Angeles is how Brothecary's came to be.

Allison is a native Los Angeleno and grew up in Northern California. She fascination with bringing the traditional Cantonese cuisine to the U.S. market stemmed from spending five years in New York.  Exploring the NY food culture, Allison spent a lot of her time on the L, jumping between the boroughs gave her great exposure to the different scenes. Immersed in the culture of fashion, design and creative food - Allison believes that a nutritious meal is not complete without a side of broth.

Janice believes her heart will always remain with her short term home of New York. Like Allison, Janice also grew up in Northern California sharing part of her adult life in New York also. Exploring the cobble stone streets of Soho, to the single digit avenues of LES - no weekend was short of exposure to new and innovative food culture of NY. She believes that there’s needs to be more focused on the craft of soup, with real ingredients and care.
